“Translate in the Townships,” August 19–22, 2012
This coming Sunday, August 19, 2012, more than 90 translators from Canada, the United States, and Europe will gather at Estrimont Suites & Spa near Magog in Quebec’s Eastern Townships for “Translate in the Townships,” a training conference organized by Anglocom president Grant Hamilton.
“The response has been great. People are excited about the stellar lineup of translation experts we’ve invited from Quebec, France, Belgium, Switzerland, and the U.K.,” said Mr. Hamilton. “The program stresses style in translation—the use of smart writing techniques to render the translated text as readable and effective as the original.”
Anglocom’s president will be making two presentations, one on rewriting advertising copy and another on hard-to-translate French words. Other topics to be covered by instructors include corporate communications, voiceover translation, literary translation, word use frequency, technical writing, preposition use, slippage of meaning, and the differences between Quebec and European French.
