After earning a B.A. in French in 1990, Julie traded her native Minnesota for sunny California and the Monterey Institute of International Studies. Before completing an M.A. in translation, she took a year off to study and work in Belgium. In 1995, her book-length translation of a French woman's autobiography was published by Northeastern University Press. Soon thereafter, she followed her husband to Rota, Spain. Upon returning to the U.S. two years later, she set up shop as a freelance translator and editor.
Julie fell in love with Quebec City when her involvement with a wolf protection organization brought her there for the first time in 2001. Today, the love affair continues, but in her professional capacities with Anglocom. Apart from translation, her passions include crossword puzzles, yoga, rollerblading, and animal and environmental issues.
